What to pack for a dog boarding stay: a practical handover checklist
Packing for boarding is easiest when you start with the provider’s instructions. The goal is to give the team accurate information and the items your dog needs, without sending a suitcase of belongings they cannot safely use. Confirm the list before your dog’s arrival.
Confirm the booking details
Check the dates, arrival and collection arrangements, suitability approval and any documents or health requirements. Ask which belongings are accepted, how they should be labelled and what the provider supplies. Keep written booking and cancellation terms with your travel information.
Prepare the usual food
Supply the agreed amount of the dog’s normal food and label it clearly. Include the exact meal amount and times, storage instructions and any exclusions. Pre-portioned meals may help if the provider accepts them. Avoid making an unnecessary food change just before the stay.
Make medication instructions precise
Discuss medication before booking so the team can confirm whether the service can meet the dog’s needs. Supply it as agreed, with its original label and clear written veterinary instructions. Include the last dose given, the next dose due and relevant storage information. Changes should be communicated directly rather than left on an extra note in a bag.
Write a short individual care summary
Describe normal routines, handling preferences, known worries and what helps the dog settle. Include your vet and an emergency contact who can be reached while you travel. Be honest about previous incidents or difficulty around other animals. Accurate information helps the provider plan; it is not something to minimise to secure a booking.
Check comfort items and equipment
Ask before packing bedding, toys, chews, bowls or walking equipment. Label accepted belongings and remove anything damaged. A familiar item may be useful if appropriate, but the provider’s safety and cleaning rules take priority.
Give a current handover on arrival
Tell the team about any change in appetite, health, treatment or behaviour since the introduction. Confirm the medication record and contact details, then agree how updates and collection will work. Ask Paws n Klaws about the current Dog Hotel packing requirements before your stay.
